Our purpose is to support the teachers, coaches, and program directors who not only facilitate this invaluable experience but, devote long hours and make continual personal sacrifices on behalf of their students, because they believe in the power of debate.
"Debate will help you in college and job interviews; it helped one author of [Debate 101] even become a hostage negotiator while serving as President of the Student Government at UC Berkeley.
Debaters have been the advocates who argued cases which decided the election of the President of the United States and which will make history concerning what government can and cannot do concerning future criminal justice reform policies.
One former Nebraska high school debater even went on Meet the Press some years back and told the host how the debater’s experience as a high school policy debater helped to prevent a nuclear war with the Soviet Union during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Whether policy debate takes you to the White
House, the Senate, the Supreme Court or the boardroom - - - the fact is that policy debate, and the skill sets you develop in policy debate, will take you places you otherwise would never be able to go.
As you read and study debate theory, and practice your debate skills, understand one very important rule:
No author has all the right answers, and pretty much everything about debate is open to, you guessed it, DEBATE."
