2021 "TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS" SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The Foundation’s founders and board of directors share the opinion of the person for whom the Foundation is named, Dr. JW Patterson, that the research, reflective thinking, and communication skills acquired through speech and debate are among the most valuable of all academic pursuits and provide a significant contribution towards professional success.
These skills are usable in all disciplines and provide training for leadership in many aspects of society.
To this end, we have created scholarships, fellowships, and grant opportunities to help as many high school students as possible, regardless of financial circumstances, to participate in the activity.
The Patterson Scholarship Endowment is a need-based scholarship endowment established for the primary purpose of providing high-school students with the funds, equipment, and resources necessary to travel and participate in high school speech and debate tournaments and attend high school debate camps.
The Patterson Fellows Programs is a merit-based program that provides full-tuition scholarships to twelve of the top rising senior debaters in the country to attend the University of Michigan Seven-Week Seniors Program during the summer of 2020. These twelve students are known as "The J.W. Patterson Fellows."
